This event is modeled on the popular El Diablo Tour. Highlights are exceptional riding, especially the second half of the tour, a fun stay at a beach resort, and the natural and cultural wonders of the Copper Canyon region. This is a road tour so it is paved throughout. Consider this an excellent and romantic riding holiday ideally suited for couples or singles.
Day 1 Nogales, Arizona Arrive Tucson, Arizona with transfers to Nogales on the border with Mexico. Briefing where currency exchange will take place and discussions on rider safety, etc. Dinner.
Transfer distance from Tucson to Nogales, 100 KM.
Day 2 San Carlos Bay, Sonora Mexico 440 KM – border crossing formalities then through the desert state of Sonora. Overnight on the Sea of Cortez.
Day 3 Alamos, Sonora 350 KM – the ride continues south along the west coast of the Mexico mainland on primarily toll ways. Alamos is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Madres. This is a delightful and small Colonial era village where for many years we have been warmly welcomed.
Day 4 Mazatlan, Sinaloa 600 KM– rise early as this is the longest ride of the tour however one can make excellent time on this toll way. Mazatlan is the pearl of the Mexican Pacifico, we’ll be right on the beach. It is also known for a place of fiesta and fun nightlife.
Day 5 Mazatlan – With three nights here one can get lazy on the beach, shop the nearby Golden Zone, go to the centro and enjoy the native market, This is an excellent way to warm up a frigid winter! The Hotel Playa Mazatlan is big enough to provide everything you need yet has for decades offer the most personal and sincere service, a legend in the state of Sinaloa.
Day 6 Mazatlan - a good time to get some laundry done, to go sport fishing for monster marlin. This is a superb holiday stop.
Day 7 Durango 320 km - anxious to hit the road after your resort stay, we now turn inland to experience a more native Mexico across what is known as the Spine of the Devil, Espinaso del Diablo. One of Mexico’s premier riding roads that takes you through miles of twists and turns with scenic panoramas. Starting out in the tropics you climb to high pines and then descend to a more arid high desert. This was the land of Pancho Villa, the great bandit and revolutionary of the early 20th century.
Day 8 Hidalgo de Parral 400 km– a fun ride across the desert. There will be the mandatory pilgrimage at the Hacienda Canutillo (now a museum) in an old adobe one street village where Pancho Villa lived out his final days before suffering from a bad case of “lead poisoning” in 1921.
Day 9 Creel 420 KM - This day we share with you the real Treasure of the Sierra Madres..and “we don’t need no stink’n badges” Another premier riding road on what is called the Gran Vision. Creel is a funky little railroad town in the heart of the Sierra Madres and a hub for Copper Canyon activities.
Day 10 Copper Canyon rim 45 KM, – This Baranca del Cobre of the Sierra Madres region is four times larger than the American Grand Canyon, thousands of square miles of step canyons, deep gorges, high mesas and the home to the Tarahumara Indian, many of whom you will see wearing a loin cloth and still living in caves. This is only a short day of riding, but gives you time to have a nice morning in Creel. Arrive in time for a lunch and a hike along the canyon rim
Day 11 Nuevo Casas Grandes 450 KM– a full day of riding so an early departure. A day of wide open spaces through regions settled by the Mennonites. Casas Grandes is a Mormon settled community and is known for the archeological sight called Paquime. Also an excellent place to purchase the world famous Casas Grande pottery direct from the artisans.
Day 12 Tucson 450 KM – up early to cross back into the USA, accommodations prearranged and included in Tucson.
