This is another great classic and very popular tour here in South America. Let us show you the magic of Patagonia, its mountains, lakes and plains stretching as far as the eye can see, the fjords of Chile's Pacific coast, the hot springs at Puyuhuapi, all the way down to the Perito Moreno glacier.
Day 1: Arrival in Bariloche Paperwork and bike allocation followed by a few hour’s ride around the Circuito Chico to familiarise yourselves with the bikes and to enjoy some of the best lake and mountain views around Bariloche. Evening meal at a local parrilla restaurant and debriefing in preparation for the start south tomorrow.
Day 2: Bariloche - Trevelín - Riding distance: 310 km From Bariloche we head south via the pretty market town El Bolsón and the dazzling lakes of the Alerces National Park to the Welsh town of Trevelín where the Celtic heritage very much alive.
Day 3: Trevelín - Puyuhuapi (Chile) – Riding distance: 240 km Into Chile via Futaleufú and joining the Carretera Austral south - a great road through the valleys with stunning views. A warm welcome awaits us at this German-style hostería, situated at the head of a Pacific fjord.
Day 4: Puyuhuapi – Coyhaique - Riding distance: 235 km A morning visit to the Termas del Ventisquero south of Puyuhaupi to have a dip in the hot springs, then following south on the Carretera Austral… to the town of Coyhaique, regional capital and one of Chile’s main agricultural centres.
Day 5: Coyhaique – Puerto Guadal – Riding distance: 275 km To the western shore of Lake General Carrera taking in the most picturesque part of the Southern Highway. A midday stop at Puerto Río Tranquilo to visit the extraordinary lake rock formations of the Capillas de Mármol (1 hour boat trip).
Day 6: Puerto Guadal (Chile) - Estancia La Angostura (Argentina) – Riding distance: 485 km We follow the southern lake shore 115 kms to the Customs post at Chile Chico, through Los Antiguos to the town of Perito Moreno where we rejoin the Route 40 south.
Day 7: Estancia La Angostura - El Calafate - Riding distance: 475 km Rejoining the Route 40, we head south to the tourist hub of El Calafate. Stop for refreshments (excellent homemade cakes) at La Leona, a traditional roadside estancia and you can try your hand at the gaucho drinking game, trying to loop a hoop on a nail in the wall.
Day 8: El Calafate – Riding distance: 160 km We have various possibilities to visit the World Heritage Site of the Perito Moreno glacier with its 60 metre high ice wall, located about 100 km from the centre of El Calafate. Once we're in the National Park, we can choose between a two hour boat trip to view the ice wall from the water, a half-day ice trek on the glacier (crampons provided) or a full day boat trip to visit the different glaciers in the area. Whatever option you choose, it will be unforgettable.
Day 9: Transfer to El Calafate airport and fly out
